MINDFIELD is a captivating visual narrative that combines art and self-reflection, encouraging the audience to explore their inner emotional world. By portraying the emotional landscape as a beautiful flower field, it invites individuals to navigate their emotions with greater confidence and self-acceptance. The project aims to promote emotional clarity and self-awareness, fostering empathy and compassion for oneself and others.
The initial project idea was inspired by personal experiences and the stories shared by those around me, which revealed the often-unspoken challenges adolescents face in understanding and expressing their emotions. As I began exploring this concept further, research highlighted how crucial it is to develop emotional awareness and regulation skills during adolescence—a time when emotions are especially intense and fluctuating.
Studies indicate that adolescents experience higher frequencies of both high-intensity positive and negative emotions compared to adults. However, their ability to regulate these emotions is still developing, as the brain’s frontal lobe, which governs emotional control, doesn’t fully mature until the mid-twenties. It was also found in studies that adolescents who can identify and articulate their emotions more specifically show greater resilience against depressive symptoms and anxiety following stressful events later in life. Additionally, being more accepting of negative emotions benefits psychological health. In light of this, MINDFIELD is created invites people to look into their hearts, encouraging them to seek and understand their emotions.
The name MINDFIELD was drawn from the Chinese term 心田 – directly translated as “heart field” – a metaphor for the inner emotional landscape of our hearts. Dedicated to adolescents who are experiencing an emotional rollercoaster, MINDFIELD is designed to address the emotional challenges faced by adolescents as they navigate the complexities of their feelings during a critical developmental stage. By encouraging young individuals to explore, articulate, and understand their emotions, the project aims to foster self-exploration and connection, reinforcing the idea that they are not alone in their experiences.
The visual identity of Mindfield revolves around uniquely crafted wordmark logos that emphasise simplicity, flow, and a connection to nature. The selected typeface embodies gentleness through its elegant curves, with decorative swashes subtly resembling the small leaves of a flower, which tie into the project’s core theme of emotions as a flower field. The letter ‘i’ was customised and further adapted into a petal-like icon, forming an abstract flower symbol that serves as an iconic visual element of the project. Colour scheme was thoughtfully chosen to create a visually cohesive identity that evokes a sense of gentleness, calmness and matureness.
The storybook introduces readers to the concept of an inner landscape where emotions bloom like flowers. Through a narrated journey into this imagined space, the book encourages reflection on one’s own emotional world. Illustrations in the book are frames captured from the 3D artwork of Mindfield.

An interactive art installation inviting visitors to exchange anonymous postcards, where they receive a message and leave one in return. This installation seeks to foster connection and mutual support by offering a creative, physical yet anonymous way to share reflective thoughts or heart-warming messages. In a time when people often isolate themselves and find it difficult to express their emotions, this installation serves as a gentle reminder of the value of shared vulnerability and human connection.
A series of products as physical representations of the emotional journey explored through Mindfield, serving as everyday reminders that our emotions, like the flowers in the field, are worth nurturing and understanding. These items aim to foster a sense of belonging and connection, reinforcing the message that we are not alone in navigating our emotional landscapes. They also make thoughtful, caring gifts for those around us, offering a meaningful way to support others on their emotional journey.
