Truvai is a forward-thinking organisation that creates immersive, serendipitous experiences. Through thoughtfully crafted events and interactions, Truvai encourages exploration, connection, and discovery. By moving beyond algorithm-driven recommendations, it offers the excitement of uncovering 'lucky finds'—in both music and community. While currently focused solely on music, Truvai aims to broaden its scope to encompass a wider context of art and culture, offering experiences across various creative fields.
Algorithm-driven music recommendations have been shown to limit users’ exposure to new and diverse sounds, often creating echo chambers that reinforce familiar genres and artists, while making it harder for emerging musicians to reach new listeners. This lack of discovery stifles the spontaneous joy that comes from finding something truly unexpected.
Inspired by platforms like Bandcamp and events like SXSW, Truvai creates a space for people to explore beyond algorithms. Through immersive, community-driven experiences, both online and offline, it encourages music discovery, shared interests, and meaningful connections. By offering a third space for face-to-face interaction, Truvai addresses loneliness and fosters genuine community bonds.
Curators of Serendipitous Discoveries
Truvai draws inspiration from the historical tale of the ‘Three Princes of Serendip,’ where the concept of serendipity originates, incorporating a stylised crown into its visual identity. The princes symbolise the brand’s guiding principles: Exploration, Connection, and Discovery. These values are woven into every aspect of Truvai’s approach, ensuring they resonate across its immersive digital platform and real-world events.
Bringing the idea of a ‘lucky find’ to life, this concept draws inspiration from Geocaching with QR code stickers that participants can scan for song recommendations (a Truvai). Distributed at events, these stickers encourage sharing and connection, acting as conversation starters and community markers. Users can easily ‘give’ or ‘receive’ these discoveries through simple scans.
At this stage, the foundational QR code concept is currently in the prototyping phase. Due to limited programming experience, the interactions have been simplified to focus on user experience. The ultimate goal is to develop dynamic QR codes that allow users to easily share and update the recommendations tied to each token instantly.
Dynamic QR codes work by linking to a URL that can be modified (through an API) after the code has been generated (and printed). This allows the song assigned to QR code can be continuously changed.
APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) enable one application to request data or services from another, facilitating seamless integration. In this case, two APIs will be integrated: one for managing dynamic QR codes to retrieve the latest assigned song and another from a streaming service, such as Spotify or Apple Music, for song assignment, search, and playback features.
The website will host the interaction for the dynamic QR codes. Users can scan the codes directly with their camera, but the website (which may evolve into an app in the future) will facilitate the process of giving and receiving music recommendations. In this initial stage, the QR codes are simply linked to individual Figma pages, allowing users to access specific song details and recommendations.
The website serves not only as a platform for token scanning but also as a community hub, offering updates on upcoming events, photos from past previous ones, and a way for users to log their Truvais. Since QR codes can be scanned by any camera, it was crucial to create interactions that attract new members and provide information about the organisation.
