Guardians of the Ocean is a motion-driven campaign that inspires a shift of perception in the audience. The project pulls on the audience's generalised fear of sharks and asks that they should be more concerned of an ocean without sharks. This is done through interactive elements as well as elements of education.
This project was inspired by a passion and real world experiences. Perception is a powerful tool that is easily manipulated and influenced. This project recognises a key negative perception of the sight of a ‘fin’ in the ocean and asks viewers to consider what may happen to our oceans if that feared ‘fin’ was to disappear. The project requests that audiences remain open to a shift in perception. This is done through use of motion graphics to immerse viewers in a very real environment pulling on media tropes and as well as use of AR to demonstrate changes and implement an educational aspect to demonstrate the change in the ocean environment.
My process begins with an idea inspired by a passion. From here, I experiment immediately across different platforms to see what I can create visually before deciding where to go and what to create. For this project I spent hours of time in blender creating and experimenting which inspired the project itself and the direction I would then go in. Consequently, most of my process is spent in the different programs and driven by the abilities of the technology I have at hand. This is a unique process for myself and I find this is how I am able to create unexpected projects.
