Project context

This project I’ve worked on reflects on my two passions when it comes to media and hobbies: Design/Art and Music

The process of creating this project was mixing both of those passions together and creating a set of design deliverables that are fun and meaningful, being a musician and designer based in Brisbane. I strived to showcase a mix of different techniques and experimenting with different design mediums and programs to create these set of deliverables. These include illustrations and branding, animations and AR animations, wayfinding design and app design.

Thank you for taking the time to come and view my project!

Logo/Branding

The branding colours are based off the state colours for Queensland, as well as accompanying colours used to represent Queensland on different platforms. Examples include the branding/logos for the Queensland Government, XXXX, Brisbane Lions (AFL), Brisbane Broncos and the Queensland Maroons (both NRL)

The primary logo shape takes the form of a Stratocaster style guitar, made up of varying sizes of rocks. The guitar body and the headstock use the maroon colour, whereas the neck, pickup and tuning pegs are gold. The Stratocaster shape was used as it’s arguably the most recognisable guitar model worldwide

The brand name was inspired by a song title of the same name, recorded by Brisbane’s own, Powderfinger, released as the opening track from their 2003 album, Vulture Street.

The alternative logos are intended to be used for varying media and advertisements. Some of the shape designs are based of accompanying devices used with a guitar, such as amplifiers and guitar picks

The font chosen for the branding is Blackcurrant (Black). It gives the branding a vintage, yet fun vibe of the earlier days of Rock and Roll. Giving Rockin’ Rocks some more character that will pop out to the locals of Brisbane.

Although it may not be too noticeable, but there is visual differences between text that are in caps and not in caps.
There are two other font types in the Blackcurrant family, which are Cameo

The font used for any body text in media is Gill Sans MT
